Wake Windows by Age
A wake window is the time a baby stays awake between sleeps. Little Nap uses age-based wake windows as the first estimate, then blends them with your baby’s logged wake times. The starting ranges are 45–75 minutes at 0–2 months, 90–120 minutes at 3–5 months, 2–3 hours at 6–11 months, 3–5 hours at 12–23 months, and 4–6 hours at 2 years and up.

What a wake window is
A wake window is elapsed awake time after the last sleep ended, not a personality type and not a medical measurement. Parents use it to reduce the guess of “too soon” versus “already past tired.” Little Nap shows awake time on the Nap Window screen after a sleep ends.
Age ranges exist because a 6-week-old and a 14-month-old rarely share the same comfortable awake stretch. Little Nap stores those ranges as the fallback when personal history is thin or missing.
How Little Nap applies wake windows by age
On setup, a rough age selects the stage. The engine starts the next-nap estimate between that stage’s lower and upper wake bounds. After valid completed sleeps exist, the personal wake median mixes in. More recent personal weight reduces how much the age range controls the window.
If age is missing, Little Nap still needs a gentle default so the first days are usable. Once age and logs are present, the onboarding line can read as a starting estimate after a 45–75 minute wake, or whichever range matches the stage.
Why a personal wake window beats a printed chart
Charts are averages. Your baby might settle at the short end of a range for weeks, then stretch. A tracker that only displays a chart cannot see that. Little Nap’s Premium window is a clock range built from the mix of age and logs, with a confidence percentage so a thin history does not pretend to be certain.
Short naps can pull the next window earlier. That is why logging brief sleeps matters. A chart that assumes every nap lasted an hour will miss the afternoon that started too soon.
- 0–2 months: 45–75 minutes, typical nap about 45 minutes
- 3–5 months: 90–120 minutes, typical nap about 60 minutes
- 6–11 months: 2–3 hours, typical nap about 75 minutes
- 12–23 months: 3–5 hours, typical nap about 90 minutes
- 2+ years: 4–6 hours, typical nap about 90 minutes
Limits of wake-window guidance
Wake windows are estimates. Illness, travel, skipped naps, and developmental leaps can make a “correct” window fail. Little Nap cannot guarantee sleep at the suggested time and is not medical advice.
If staying awake or falling asleep looks painful, or you have a health concern, talk to a clinician. Use the ranges as a starting language, not a rule.
